NITZAN AGRICULTURAL PROJECT

Negev, Israel

Youth Rehabilitation Project

The IDF squad named “Egoz," have created the voluntary association "Nitzan – Every seed, if given light and water, can be made to bloom".

 

In order to achieve this goal, they are working to create an agricultural farm for rehabilitating troubled youth. The education and rehabilitation activity at the farm will be based on the use of agricultural work and the desert environment as rehabilitation tools.

 

The farm is designed for young people, particularly "at risk youth", with the aim of reducing dropout rates from the country's institutions, and of strengthening and rehabilitating troubled youth. It will include several spheres of activity:

 

  1. Working with young people who are not progressing in existing in the framework of existing institutions.

  2. Providing an alternative to detention for young offenders – these young people will work the farm as they undergo a meaningful process of emotional empowerment and rehabilitation.

  3. Holding desert workshops for groups. 

 

DBL will fund the purchase of equipment required to run the farm. This will include greenhouses, heavy mechanical equipment, construction and operation equipment.

DEKEL SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAM

City of Lod, Israel

School Music Program

Dekel School is a government school that provides for the education and care of children with various conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Down Syndrome. In addition to the  normal educational streams, the school is designed to impart life skills and develop resilience in these children. A wide range of programs is provided, but music has proven one of the most effective tools in developing skills.

 

DBL  purchased a range of musical instruments and created a music program enabling the further development of a broad range of skills within the children of Dekel School to aid in their overall physical, mental and emotional development.

DEKEL SCHOOL SNOEZELEN THERAPY ROOM

City of Lod, Israel

School Therapy Program

Dekel School is a government school that provides for the education and care of children with various conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Down Syndrome. In addition to the  normal educational streams, the school is designed to impart life skills and develop resilience in these children.

 

DBL funded the development of a Snoezelen Therapy Room, which enables more comprehensive and extensive therapy in a specifically designed environment. This therapy is proven to have significant results in the further development of a broad range of skills for children with these challenges.

OFER SCHOOL TRANSITION PROJECT-2015

Haifa, Israel

Community Transition Project

Ofer School provides education and life skills to young people between the ages of 6 and 21 who have low to mid functioning Autism.  DBL previously worked with the school to improve their outdoor play and activity areas. The success of this project and ongoing engagement with Ofer School has been significant.

 

DBL provided further support to Ofer School throughout 2014 through the funding of their Transition Program. The Program aims to provide education and life skills to 19-year-old’s transitioning into life in the community. In 2015 DBL continued to support this valuable project.

OFER SCHOOL TRANSITION PROGRAM 2014

Community Transition Project

Ofer School and DBL have recently combined to undertake a project to improve the facilities at the School. The School provides education and life schools to young people between the ages of 6 and 21 who have low to mid functioning Autism.  DBL worked with the school to improve their outdoor play and activity areas. The success of this project has been enormous. 

 

DBL provided further support to Ofer School through the funding of their Transition Program in 2014. The Program aims to provide education and life skills to 19-year-old’s transitioning into life in the community. DBL will continue to support this program in 2015.

GALIM SCIENCE CLASS PROJECT

Kibutz Ein Hamifratz, Israel

School Upgrade Project

Galim is a special education school that works to change the status of 'children at risk'  to ‘Children with a chance’.  They reach children with special needs: compound learning disabilities, emotional, social, behavioral and functional problems.

 

They equip children with the tools to maximize their abilities to become independent integrated citizens in the community. 'Galim' believes that all children, including children with special needs, have potential, and believe in their ability to change and better their lives by using a wide array of strategies that are suited to each child.

 

Galim is a school for children with wide-ranging and complex learning disabilities. Due to their complex background, the children are disadvantaged in most academic fields the majority of students come from disadvantaged families; poor social and cultural background, Low socio-economic status and high unemployment rates. 

 

DBL will work with Galim to establish a Science classroom at the school.

GALIM SCHOOL

Tel Aviv, Israel

School Upgrade Project

Galim School is a school for special needs children situated near Tel Aviv in Israel. DBL has undertaken a project at the school in the past to establish a Technology and Science facility, with great success.

 

The team at DSV in Israel have committed to provide their ongoing support of projects in Israel due to the success achieved on past projects.

 

DBL  worked with the Galim School to further develop the Technology and Science facility by adding computer facilities.

OFER SCHOOL 2013

Haifa, Israel

School Construction Program

The Ofer School was created in 1998, specifically to provide for the needs of children and young adults with Autism. The facility is government operated but substantially funded by a support organization ""Friends of Ofer". The school provides an adjusted educational program, with a heavy focus on the provision of life skills. Children attend Ofer for all but 14 days of the year from 8:00am until 5:00pm.

 

DBL will undertake a project to create a specialized playground for younger children, as well as to renovate and upgrade the facilities of the afternoon club. This club provides a wide range of support programs for students and families outside their normal educational programs.

BOOKS FOR ISRAEL & PALESTINE

Israel & Palestine

Book Distribution Project

Books for Israel & Palestine was a partnership with Thriftbooks of the USA. Thriftbooks supplied the books free of charge and DBL together with UTI took responsibility for shipping and distributing these books throughout Israel & Palestine.

NEVE GALIM CHILDRENS' HOME

Ashdod, Israel

Orphanage Upgrade Project

Neve Galim was established in 1977 to provide housing and support to children at risk in the community. It is government approved and receives some government funding, but exists mainly on donations. For any repairs and maintenance or new furniture and fittings, it relies totally on donations.

 

DBL provided  funding and management to renovate and fit out new bedrooms and living rooms.

BRANCO WEISS HIGH SCHOOL

Ashdod, Israel

Music Program

Branco Weiss High School was established to provide a sheltered and specialized educational environment for youth at risk. The school operates classes of just 10 children and provides standard curriculum as well as specialized counseling and medical care. 

 

The UTi team have already developed a 4-step program of engagement with the school to take place over a year, and one element of this is a music program.

 

DBL funded the creation of a therapeutic music program, that involved the establishment of a music room and provision of musical instruments and recording equipment.

NEVE GALIM CHILDRENS' HOME

Ashdod, Israel

Orphanage Upgrade Project

Neve Galim was established in 1977 to provide housing and support to children at risk in the community. The home provides cottage style housing for 105 children who are supervised by house parents. It is government approved and receives some government funding but exists mainly on donations. For any repairs and maintenance or new furniture and fittings it relies totally on donations.

 

In 2014, DBL completed a project to provide furnishing to 2 of the community houses run by Neve Galim. This project saw DBL return to the home to provide furnishing to an additional two homes.

KEDMA 

Lod/Ashdod, Israel

School Upgrade Project

Kedma Youth Village is an educational, therapeutic and social community whose  aim is to enable and allow each individual to acquire social life skills and to become an independent contributing member of the Israeli society. 

 

The village provides accommodation to young people in need. The village has existing dormitories that were built in the 1960s and in a state of disrepair that has deemed them unfit for habitation. 

 

DBL undertook renovation works of the dormitories to allow the village to accommodate 24 young people in need.
