Orphanage Upgrade Project
His House Children's Home is a facility in Miami that provides residential care, foster home placement, counselling, education and transitioning needs for children in crisis. The facility has large numbers of children who are caught illegally migrating across the borders into the USA. Care is provided in a village environment, with children in small cottage units living with caregivers.
The facility has been operating for 28 years and in that time has helped over 14,000 children. It currently houses 232 children in 16 cottages. Challenges are compounded as the children come from 8 different countries. The current volume of children arriving cannot be catered for with over 1000 turned away in the past year.
DBL has previously completed work to renovate and upgrade, two cottages inside and out, including renewing bedding and some soft furnishings.
This project will saw DBL return to His House to renovate and furnish a further two cottages.

CAMP HOPE

Community Development Project
Camp Hope was established by the White family in memory of their son-PFC- Christopher Neal White, who lost his life in Afghanistan. The Camp was purchased with insurance proceeds from the death of their son, as they did not want to personally benefit from the tragedy.
The White family wanted to see those who needed help provided with the type of caring, supportive environment required for the healing and recovery process. The Camp provides opportunities for wounded, returned Servicemen and Servicewomen to participate in outdoor activities. The Camp had been run in existing farm facilities since it was purchased, however these were not suitable to provide the services required.
A plan was developed to construct facilities specific to the needs of the people who required the support of Camp Hope. The Foundation was requested to support the final stage of construction of a community building for Camp Hope.

MIAMI CHILDRENS' HOSPITAL

Hospital Equipment Project
Miami Children's Hospital provides care to children with cancer, along with many other illnesses. The children treated in the Oncology Ward can only leave their beds to be with their family and friends in a more relaxing surrounding, if monitored by a Dynamap machine. To provide this service, 4 new machines were required.
DBL agreed to purchase 4 new Dynamap machines for the Oncology Ward.

COMMUNITY SOLIDARITY

Community Development Program
Community Solidarity(CS) is a registered Social Enterprise established 9 years ago to provide a 24/7 food rescue and hunger relief program in Southern New York. The organization is totally operated by volunteers who use their own vehicles to collect and distribute food on a 3-hour time window from collection to delivery.
The operating model works well and has a strong backbone of volunteers, but the use of private vehicles is preventing CS from collecting food when it is beyond a few cartons and has consequently led to food that could have been collected and distributed being trashed.
DBL funded the acquisition of a 3-ton enclosed van that will enable CS to collect and distribute larger volumes of food, and to do so more quickly than they could.

MY FATHER'S HOUSE

Community Shelter Project
My Father’s House is a homeless shelter located in Gresham, Oregon, focused specifically on helping homeless families stay together throughout the shelter process.
The scope of the organization (MFH) is specifically to aid homeless families, to help address the core problems that result in homelessness and most importantly to keep these families together during that time. They have a 4-month program that can house up to 28 families, and a 12-month program that can house up to 12 families.
DBL's contribution allowed for onsite repairs & renovations at their housing facility, construction of a secure and soundproof multipurpose conference/meeting/therapy rooms for resident counselling and one-on-one education and aid.
These will now provide a safe and secure environment for counseling, casework, and therapy, ensuring confidentiality when needed, and giving residents and staff a safe space to speak with each other.
