AL FAYOUM VILLAGE RENEWAL
Al Fayoum Village, Egypt
Community Development Project
Al Fayoum Village is located on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. The Village is one of many small squatter communities in Egypt. The communities within consist of mostly unemployed, uneducated individuals, often with poor mental and or physical health.
The people of Al Fayoum Village are mostly itinerant workers who have moved to Cairo for work but have been unable to gain employment. Health within this community is very poor mostly due to the terrible living conditions. Most houses are mud brick shacks with no windows or doors, no water or sanitation, and no electricity. Life expectancy is short and diseases that breed in these conditions are rife.
DBL funded a program focused on the provision of safe water and sanitation, the provision of electricity and general building renovations including the installation of doors, windows and ceilings.
