Our Origins

DBL has its origins in UTi Worldwide, a global logistics company based in Los Angeles. All of the founders are former UTi executives, who all held a view that their global networks and business skills placed them in an ideal position to identify, execute and manage community projects, delivering long term sustainable value. The Delivering Better Lives Charitable Foundation is a non-profit organization, 501(c)3.

Glenn Mills

Executive Director

Glenn retired from full-time employment with UTi in 2007 to concentrate on community activities. Glenn was President, Client Solutions-Asia Pacific, prior to this he held various senior positions within the group. He serves on the boards of a number of charities in Australia.

Alan Draper

Trustee

Alan retired from UTi in 2006 after serving as President, Asia Pacific since 1996 and is former Director of UTi Worldwide. As a Rhodes Scholar, Alan graduated with a Masters of Philosophy from Oxford University and an Alpha Beta Pass. He received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Natal and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa.

Carlos Escario

Trustee

Carlos was formerly a senior executive of UTi after founding SLI with his brothers in 1991. SLI was sold to UTi in 2002 after which Carlos held many senior roles with UTI, including President of Europe and the Middle East a region of 54 Countries.

Carlos has extensive academic achievements and ongoing academic interests in Spain, Peru and the USA, he is an Honorary Professor at CEU Cardenal Herrera.

Carlos is based in Madrid, Spain but travels extensively advising global organizations.

Thurso Barendse

Trustee & Honorary CFO

Thurso is a former UTi Vice President with almost 27 years of service who currently resides in Southern California. He is qualified as a Chartered Accountant in both South Africa and Australia and has worked in the logistics industry for 34 years.

Thurso is currently the CFO for Vanguard Logistics, based in Los Angeles.

Simon Stubbings

Trustee

Simon is a former Chairman of the Board of Directors of UTi Worldwide, a position from which he retired in 2008. A lawyer by background, he now lives in Oxford in the UK where he pursues various charitable, educational and business interests.

Daniel Grimes

Trustee

Daniel is a former senior executive at UTI, having served as Vice President Latin America and as a member of the Americas Management Board.

Daniel holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the University of California at Davis and a Master’s Degree in Business from Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Daniel has a passion for community service and garnering employee engagement through Corporate Social Responsibility.

Daniel is currently the President and COO of iTN Worldwide and based in Miami.
